God of War I + II Packaged With God of War III?

by Timmy WalnutsApril 19th, 2009 - 4:57 pm

In a recent survey being conducted by PlayStation.com, Sony wants to know what the general public desires to be included in the collectors edition of God of War III.

Interestingly, GoW I+II were listed as being included on a separate blue ray disc, theoretically bypassing the current PS3’s backwards compatibility faults (as phenomenal as these titles are, its still only two). Other collectibles available to choose from included a key-chain, artwork, cinematics from previous games, or a comic book/graphic novel, all worthy of collectibility. However, having the first two GoWs available on the PS3 would be wonderful, and bolster the shaky library that Sony has been having trouble creating. Not to mention, to be able to play the original two installments in a possible 1080i or 1080p video output setting? Drool.

Sorry, folks. Game Informer has asked that I remove any and all links to the scans. Lots of other sites seem to be hosting them freely though. Go figure.

Geek Chic: Underground Artists Remind Us Why We Love 8-Bit

by Danny InternetsMarch 4th, 2009 - 3:52 pm

Since the debut of the Atari 2600 in 1977, gaming has secured a unique niche in popular culture. Like those from our childhood stories, books, movies, and television programs, characters from video games can evoke powerful feelings of nostalgia as we think back on simpler times. I’ll bet most of us can still remember that Christmas morning when we unwrapped our first NES–I know I can.

Given the lengthy history of gaming and how it has blossomed into a multi-billion dollar industry, it should come as no surprise that video games have blended with a number of facets of everyday life. And with those who grew up on the 2600 and NES now in their mid-20’s and 30’s, gaming isn’t just for kids anymore. From Halloween costumes to military training exercises to physical fitness, gaming is an ever-present part of our culture.

There are many out there who take their gaming seriously and insist that video games an artistic form of expression equal to any other visual or story-telling medium. With gamer art gathering steam as a successful underground phenomenon, it’s hard to argue otherwise. Every summer, hundreds of people flock to the annual mixed media I Am 8-bit exhibit hosted in Hollywood, California. The exhibit features artists from around the world who have demonstrated a love of old school gaming through their choice of subject matter. While the I Am 8-bit exhibit gives the public a glimpse at some exceptionally geeky eye-candy, there are of course untold thousands of other talented artists out there who have not had the fortune of having their work put on display.

Below you can find some incredibly cool examples of some lesser known artists, most of which have not yet been featured in I Am 8-bit. And if you haven’t already seen the exhibit pieces from the past few years, you can check them out here (2006), here (2007), and here (2008).

Kingdom Hearts, 358/2 Days Away From A US Release

by Timmy WalnutsFebruary 13th, 2009 - 4:23 pm
Hey America! Looks like we’re gonna be waiting just a “smidgen” longer that Kingdom Hearts fix.

V Jump, a leading manga and video game magazine based in Japan, reports that Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days will now be released sometime during May, a second delay for the game. Originally slated for the end of 2008, developer h.a.n.d and publisher Square Enix first delayed the title to February 2009, but with the month half over, it was only a matter of time till Squeenix got on the horn and pushed it back once more.

This comes with a swift kick in the testicles for a stateside release; given SquareEnix’s track record, I’d presume nothing earlier than a holiday release. But hey, lets not forget that they pushed up the release of Star Ocean: The Last Hope by a week, so we can’t be too bitter about this, can we?

If you can read Japanese, heres the article from V Jump. (courtesy of KHinsider.com)
