Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X Demo Out February 11th/12th

Does anyone remember the original Xbox/PC game Crimson Skies? If not, I’d highly suggest digging for it at Gamestop, you’ll notice about a 5 dollar price tag for one of the best games to grace 6th generation consoles. It was a masterful blend of flight and combat, veering away from flight simulation for a more “arcady” feel and focus on dogfighting. Theres been nothing quite like it since, nor have their been many traditional flight simulators released, besides Ace Combat 6. Aerial combat games and flight simulators have become a rapidly dying breed, yet, there is a ray of hope in Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X (High Altitude Warfare eXperimental squadron).

Set for release March 6th on the 360 and PS3, and March 13th for the PC, HAWX looks to provide an exhilarating experience. Introducing the E.R.S (Enhanced Reality System), players will be able to ease themselves into the air, allowing the player to utilize many different mechanics, including aircraft interception trajectories, incoming missile detection, anti-crash system, damage assessment, tactical map, and weapons trajectory control. E.R.S also allows the player to give orders to his or her squadron, much like the Cross-Com system in Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter. The player may choose to turn off the E.R.S, allowing for much more advanced maneuverability and allows the player to jump into third person viewpoints, which offer stunning visuals and fantastic dogfighting capabilities. And following in many recent games footsteps, HAWX will allow for seamless jump in/jump out multiplayer, allowing for the entire solo campaign to be played with a buddy right next you, or over Xbox live. Players will also be able to encounter each other in PVP, which dishes out experience points and money for each successful kill and with this money, you can unlock more advanced weaponry.

With an offering of over 50 aircraft, real life locations and cities, and blistering-fast combat, Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X is shaping up to be a contender for the best of 2009. The demo is due out on the 360 on the 11th, the PS3 on the 12th, and a week later for the PC. With the demo, players will be able to utilize the jump in/jump out multiplayer, supporting up to four players, as well as the option to fly as three different aircrafts: the F-16A Fighting Falcon, the SU-35 Super Flanker and the AV-8B Harrier II. It will also offer two missions, Operatation: Off Certification, allowing the player to train in “assistance off” mode and practice their high flying maneuvers and Operation: Glass Hammer, where you’ll become familiar with the E.R.S and it’s ability to calculate the best interception course for you to follow to attack an enemy, evade a missile or hit a ground target. I highly suggest you try it out, for the trailers look absolutely spectacular.
