A patch for Games for Windows Live has hit the interweb today in an effort to improve multiplayer for Dawn of War 2, which depends on GFWL to match players for ranked games based on their rank and Trueskill rating. (In DoW2, rank is accumulated like experience and can only increase whereas Trueskill rating fluctuates based on your win/loss ratio).
The patch was announced in a post on the official Dawn of War 2 forums this morning:
A change is being made on Games for Windows – LIVE today to improve the Multiplayer experience for DoW2 players. Ranked and Custom game modes requiring Games for Windows – LIVE will now only match players using the latest version of the game. Players should see a higher percentage of compatible games in the custom games list and reduced search times during matchmaking. Players with an out of date version of DoW2 will need to connect to Steam in ‘online mode’ to download the latest patch.
Players choosing to remain in ‘off-line’ mode will continue to have access to off-line Campaign and LAN game modes without connecting to Games for Window – LIVE or Steam.
If this update functions as intended, it should provide some desperately needed optimizations to the matching system, which can take upwards of 10 minutes find opponents even during prime time. The system is so sluggish that players tend to tab-out of the game and go AFK while waiting, not realizing that their match has started while they casually browse the web. As in any RTS game, the early moments are arguably the most crucial, so having inactive players on your team can literally costs you the match within the first 60 seconds. The suckage of being on the receiving end of this phenomenon is only exacerbated by the fact that you’ll likely need to wait another 10 minutes to try again.
So kudos to Relic for staying on top of things.

Hit Start out for the PS3 controller and you also see Kratos on the narrow path over a mountainside. The Sun God Helios looks to buzz close to on his Sun Chariot, but we can rip his skull later on. A lot more pressing matters are at hand (or blade). You might be right away drawn from the action because the soldiers in the Army of Olympus surround you. Tapping SQUARE to hack and slash is standard of God of War. Nonetheless, Kratos can now Grab in distinct designs applying several buttons. Grab enemies utilizing CIRCLE after which it you possibly can use various buttons to throw them, use as battering ram, rip it away, and so on.
