According to a statement made by an EA representative, the company is currently “evaluating the launch window” of The Sims 3, the upcoming addition to the wildly successful gaming franchise. EA has removed the previously announced release date of February 20 on the Sims 3 official website and replaced it with “Coming in 2009!” The previous release date was announced at the Liepzig Games Convention in December of last year.
Nothing like last minute delay to generate artificial buzz and get the rumor mill churning.
It appears as though many online retailers in the US haven’t yet been notified of the change. Gamestop advertises that pre-orders of the game will ship on 2/20 and Amazon still claims the product will be released on 2/16. European retailers, however, began delisting the item’s release date last week, which may have prompted EA to comment.
In other news, screams of anguish from casual gamers and housewives were felt by Jedi throughout the galaxy.
