According to Jager, Relic Developer and forum liason, not just one but TWO new Dawn of War 2 patches are on the way:
Re: ETA on next big patch?
We have one patch that has already been finalized and is in cert, and then another bigger patch which will be finalized in a few weeks.
The first patch will presumably offer a formal fix to the population cap bug, for which a workaround was provided by Relic on March 10th with patch 1.1.3. Based on community opinion, possible balance changes will likely focus on toning down the Tyranids (particularly the Ravener hero) and increasing the competitiveness of the Eldar, who were severely nerfed during beta testing and in the zero-day patch.
Since the patch is already undergoing the certification process required by Games for Windows Live, it should only be 7-14 days before the update is ready to go live (assuming it meets MS standards).
The next patch is significantly further down the line, since it hasn’t even been finalized by Relic yet. After Relic decides it’s done then it too will need to go through the lengthy GFWL certification process before being passed on to customer hands.
In the meantime, it is still possible that minor balance tweaks will be made or new content (ie, maps) added to the game, which Relic’s Community Manager, Thunder, has previously explained are not subject to the GFWL process:
Yes, there is a formal certification process for our code patches that involves GFWL approval. This is to ensure we’re maintaining LIVE in a secure state. It also provides us with an extra layer of product testing before the game is updated.
However, we are free to update DOWII with new content like multiplayer maps and balance changes without entering certification, which is the most common type of update.
Ongoing tweaks to DOWII will not be hindered by GFWL in any way.
Since the second upcoming patch is going to require certification, according to Jager, it is reasonable to conclude that there will be some significant changes to the game. Hopefully Relic will make good on their promise to offer a steady stream of free DLC as part of their anti-piracy measures.
