This morning, Relic developers reported that a new Dawn of War 2 update has passed internal quality assurance checks and is moving to a closed beta testing phase:
Our data only fix for the population cap bug has passed our internal QA tests. The fix is now being tested in a closed beta, involving a larger test group that includes some players from our community. Once this test group has confirmed that our bug fixes are doing what they should, and not introducing new issues, we will call the patch complete and schedule a time to push the changes live.
Stay tuned for further updates on this next week.
The forthcoming update will address a long-standing source of ire in the DoW2 community: the population cap bug. Currently, a squad being fully reinforced after having taken casualties will have the last reinforced unit counted twice towards the population cap, resulting in hitting the cap before actually having 100 population worth of units.
Because retreating to reinforce damaged units is an integral part of the game, particularly in multiplayer, this can really be a game-breaking bug, particularly for armies composed of smaller, more elite infantry units like the Space Marines and Eldar. For instance, refilling an Ork Slugga Boyz unit will result in an extra 1 population being counted because each member is only worth 1 pop, however reinforcing a Space Marines Tactical Squad results in an extra 5 pop being counted; because the unit is small and expensive each member requires more population.
This announcement follows a previous one on March 2 in which Relic informed players that they were aware of the bug and have been working on a solution, however additional issues had emerged causing QA testing to halt.
